Yom HaZikaron 5784
This week, in honor of Yom Haatzmaut, we are featuring a few SAR alumni ...who’ve reached the ultimate peak and made aliyah. Today, we meet, Oshi Bloom (AC '14, HS '18) who spoke about how SAR shaped his decision to make aliyah. "At SAR, I learned how to define myself by who I am and what I believe in as opposed to who I’m not and what I don’t believe in. It sounds simple but it was an absolute game changer for me. Shout out to Dr. Schwartz for this important piece of Torah." #SARalumni #makingaliyah #YomHaatzmaut
Tefilot for Israel - 05/16/24
This week, in honor of Yom Haatzmaut, we are featuring a few SAR alumni ...who’ve reached the ultimate peak and made aliyah. Today, we meet Tamar David Naveh (AC ‘12, HS ‘16). When asked the best thing about making aliyah, she spoke of the benefits and trials of living in Eretz Yisrael, especially right now. “I love it here! The best and worst are two sides of the same coin - my husband spent 5 months in reserve duty since October 7th, leaving me alone with our baby. It’s a privilege and a sacrifice all in one.” #SARalumni #makingaliyah #YomHaatzmaut #Israel #Israeli

This week, in honor of Yom Haatzmaut, we are featuring a few SAR alumni ...who’ve reached the ultimate peak and made aliyah. We kick off this spotlight series with Liana Weinberger (HS ‘20). Liana is one of our over 50 alumni who’ve served since October 7th. As a medic, she initiated medical treatment and drove an IDF ambulance all over northern Israel ferrying soldiers in need to medical facilities. #SARalumni #IDF #makingaliyah #yomhaatzamut #Israel #israeli
We commemorated Yom HaZikaron in meaningful ways as a school community. We ...honored the memory of fallen soldiers who bravely fought and sacrificed their lives for Israel as well as victims of terror. Last night we joined the larger Riverdale community at SAR High School for the annual Riverdale Jewish Community Partnership Community-Wide Yom HaZikaron Ceremony. Local government officials, religious leaders and over 700 individuals filled the auditorium and the powerful program featured personal accounts of loss, prayer, and song - including moving performances by our middle school choir. This year’s program struck an emotional chord as we honored the victims of the atrocities of October 7th and the many lives lost throughout the Israel-Hamas war.
Today, students were able to experience this powerful day in school. We began the day with daily Tefilot for Israel On the Steps which carried a heavier somber tone. We welcomed eight IDF heroes from our community to share personal stories with our students - thank you for serving to protect and defend Am Yisrael and Medinat Yisrael. Grades 5-8 gathered for a meaningful Yom HaZikaron Tekes, students visited our Yom HaZikaron Gallery and others wrote letters to families of fallen soldiers.
As the sun sets and we transition into Yom Ha’atzmaut, a day dedicated to celebrating Israel, we remember and give thanks to the giborim (heroes) who gave their lives to ensure our safety and freedom. Am Yisrael Chai!
For Yom Hazikaron 5784, we felt the need to do more than a "normal" ...year. In the morning we had our traditional Tekes Yom Hazikaron, honoring soldiers and civilians who are commemorated on this day. Later in the day, students shared the stories of civilians who lost their lives on October 7th, and of IDF soldiers who dedicated their lives to protecting Medinat Yisrael and Am Yisrael and fell on or since October 7th. The day concluded with a heartfelt school-wide kumsitz. Painful emotions ran deep, but our love was palpable. Am Yisrael Chai! #onlyatthehive
