Hereโs the Latest @ SAR
๐ข Enjoy the next installment in our series spotlighting alumni whose ...journeys from SAR to their incredible accomplishments todayโshowcasing how our students carry the values of Torah, chesed, and advocacy into the broader world.
From SAR High School to Yeshivat Hakotel to MIT, Zack Duitz's journey has always been about learning and leadership. But after October 7th, his role on campus took on a whole new meaning.
As a student of AI and Decision Making at MIT, Zack (HS '19) found himself at the frontlines of advocacyโorganizing counter-protests, meeting with administrators, and even creating an AI-powered tool to combat anti-Israel misinformation online.
Through resilience and action, Zack has been shifting the conversation, proving that innovation can be a powerful tool in the fight against misinformation and anti-Semitism.

Today we had the privilege of welcoming Dr. Effie Shoham, father of Staff ...Sergeant Yuval Shoham zโl, as we gathered on the steps to honor Yuvalโs memory and draw strength from his fatherโs words. Yuval was tragically killed in Gaza this past December at just 22 years old. Our hearts remain with Oshrat and Effie, former members of Riverdaleโs SAR Academy community, where Yuval was part of the third-grade class during the 2010-2011 school year. Yehi zichro baruch.
Now hereโs a powerful story about one of our alumni who truly exemplifies ...what it means to turn values into action.
When Maya Ohrenstein (AC '19, HS '23) set out for her gap year at Midreshet Lindenbaum, she envisioned a year of learning. But after October 7, she felt a deep calling to help.
Maya devoted herself to supporting families of chayalimโcaring for children, helping single parents navigate daily life, and simply being a steady, compassionate presence.
We are so proud to share a glimpse into Mayaโs work, a reflection of the values ingrained in her at SAR, where chesed is more than an idea; itโs a way of life.

Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming nearly 60 grandparents to our monthly ...SARts Lunchtime Showcase, where they enjoyed student performances and creative presentations alongside their grandchildren.
Our guests also heard from Rabbi Tully Harcsztark, Founding Principal & Dean of Machon Siach, who shared exciting updates about SARโs Capital Campaign and our upcoming student empowerment conference, Am V'Ometz: Building Jewish Confidence, in collaboration with American Jewish Committee (AJC), taking place on April 1st.
Thank you to all the grandparents who joined us today! We look forward to continuing to build the SAR community, ืืืืจ ืืืืจ. #onlyatthehive
At SAR, chesed isnโt just something we talk aboutโitโs something we ...live.
The Kehila Initiative empowers our 8th graders to take the values and middot theyโve been developing and apply them in meaningful ways within our broader community.
Over the course of this cohort, our students engaged in volunteer efforts beyond the classroom, heard from inspiring guest speakers about chesed and community organizing, and learned from SAR High School students about the many ways they can continue their chesed journey. We also introduced family Kehila initiatives, strengthening the power of giving across generations.
The program recently culminated as our 8th graders shared their experiences with the 7th grade, studied Torah sources on chesed, and participated in a hands-on chesed experience together.
๐ Thank you to our students, families, and partners who make this initiative possible. Your investment in chesed shapes not only this program but the character of our community.
๐ฌ Watch highlights from this meaningful program!
๐ฌ Share your feedback to help us continue strengthening the Kehila Initiative for future cohorts.
