SAR Academy Commemorates Yom HaZikaron

SAR Academy commemorated Yom HaZikaron in meaningful ways as a school community. We honored the memory of fallen soldiers who bravely fought and sacrificed their lives for Israel as well as victims of terror. Sunday night we joined the larger Riverdale community at SAR High School for the annual Riverdale Jewish Community Partnership Community-Wide Yom HaZikaron Ceremony. Local government officials, religious leaders and over 700 individuals filled the auditorium and the powerful program featured personal accounts of loss, prayer, and song – including moving performances by our middle school choir. This year’s program struck an emotional chord as we honored the victims of the atrocities of October 7th and the many lives lost throughout the Israel-Hamas war.

On Monday, students were able to experience this powerful day in school. We began the day with daily Tefilot for Israel On the Steps which carried a heavier somber tone. We welcomed eight IDF heroes from our community to share personal stories with our students – thank you for serving to protect and defend Am Yisrael and Medinat Yisrael. Grades 5-8 gathered for a meaningful Yom HaZikaron Tekes, students visited our Yom HaZikaron Gallery and others wrote letters to families of fallen soldiers.

As the sun set and we transitioned into Yom Ha’atzmaut, a day dedicated to celebrating Israel, we remember and give thanks to the giborim (heroes) who gave their lives to ensure our safety and freedom. Am Yisrael Chai!
