Sukkot Comes Alive at SAR Academy
The skies cleared just in time for a bright and beautiful Chol Hamoed Sukkot at SAR Academy! Continuing its tradition of staying open during the intermediate days of the holiday, SAR turned the week into a schoolwide celebration filled with learning, adventure, and chesed.
A highlight was Wednesday of Chol Hamoed’s lively musical Hallel and Hoshanot, which brought the entire school together on the field. SAR’s spacious sukkah provided a place for students to gather, enjoy meals, and celebrate with friends and teachers. Visits to classmates’ family sukkot added to the holiday fun.
Holiday learning took on a playful twist across the grades. SAR’s youngest learners snacked in their Magna-Tile sukkah, enjoyed a Dr. Shnitzel show, and prepared for Simchat Torah. Kindergarteners partnered with seventh graders for a special holiday project, while Lower School students had a blast with Simon Sez, tested their teamwork and communication skills in “The Great Sukkah Build,” and bounced on inflatables.
Middle School students took the celebration on the road with outings to Sky Zone, the Bronx Zoo, a ropes course, Van Cortlandt Park, and bowling, along with Sukkativity at SAR High School and biking through Central Park. Chesed was also an important part of the week, as students volunteered with local organizations, including a local food bank, welcomed students from Atmosphere, and packaged donations for Knock Knock Give a Sock.
A spirited Simchat Beit HaShoeva evening kumzitz for seventh and eighth graders, led by Rabbi Hait, added even more music and ruach to a memorable week of simchat hachag.
There’s nothing quite like Sukkot at SAR!
