Learning at SAR
SAR is dedicated to the philosophy that every child possesses a divine spark, has unique worth as an individual, and should be encouraged to achieve according to his or her ability. Students are guided to take risks, to be creative, and to develop their academic skills. We believe learning happens both in and out of the classroom and open our students’ minds to history, literature, math, science, tefillah, gemara, and medinat yisrael – all through the lens of torah. Our learning environment promotes an open thinking, boundless energy, and a warm, inclusive atmosphere.

ELC
At the Early Learning Center (ELC), SAR’s school for children ages 2-6, we create a joyous and loving Jewish environment filled with experiential learning, passionate and nurturing teachers, Hebrew immersion, and STEAM-focused curricula.

Academy
In grades 1-8, we open our students’ minds to history, literature, math, science, tefillah, Medinat Yisrael–all through the lens of Torah. We nurture in our children the understanding that Torah informs who we are in all of our interactions, and how we hold ourselves in the world.

We celebrated Israel’s 77th... birthday, with Yoni Gelfand (HS ‘14) leading our schoolwide Hallel and bringing the energy & ruach to our Yom Ha’atzmaut chagigah! Kochav Nolad was epic this year, with amazing performances by our students & faculty! Thank you to the Ivrit department for all their hard work and dedication. An afternoonBBQ lunch at Pelham Bay Park, where students enjoyed the beautiful weather, playing sports, hanging out with friends and a special treat from our Parent Association, a Kona Ice Truck! עם ישראל חי #onlyatthehive

Middle School Yom HaZikaron Tekes (Ceremony)
Yossi Hershkovitz z"l Beit Sefer LaMusika
🎻As we transition from the reflection and remembrance of Yom HaZikaron to ...the celebration and joy of Yom Ha’atzmaut tomorrow, we eagerly anticipate one of our most beloved annual events: the Middle School Beit Sefer LaMusika program—now renamed in honor of Yossi Hershkovitz z”l.
Yossi, who brought his love of music and his kind, inspiring approach to teaching to SAR, played a pivotal role in shaping this program into what it is today.
Yossi’s death defending Israel in November 2023 was an immense loss, but his memory continues to live on in every note performed by our students.
Students’ performances in the Yossi Hershkovitz z”l Beit Sefer LaMusika program, culminating tomorrow, serve as a powerful reflection of Yossi’s enduring impact, his love for his country, and the beauty he brought to our school and our lives.
🎶 We invite you to watch the performances via livestream tomorrow at 10:00 AM on SAR Live at SARAcademy.org.
🇮🇱 On Yom HaZikaron, we come together as a community to remember and ...honor the soldiers who gave their lives in defense of Medinat Yisrael, as well as the victims of terror.
Last night, we joined the Riverdale Jewish Community Partnership for a moving ceremony at SAR High School. Together with bereaved families from our community, we paid tribute to three heroic chayalim who fell in Gaza this past year.
Today, we stood united as a school community—students, faculty, and staff—devoting the day to remembrance and reflection. Throughout the day, students engaged in meaningful tekesim and conversations, learning the stories of those who made the ultimate sacrifice and hearing firsthand from chayalim within our community. Middle school students also heard from Elkana Cohen, author of OCT 7, who offered powerful insights on loss and resilience.
In a year marked by profound sorrow, we carry the memory of our fallen heroes with even greater urgency—especially for the families who bear the weight of grief each and every day.
Yehi zichram baruch.
